Tour Type:Flight & Coach
Long considered one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines, Amalfi is a series of bays, beaches, villages and towns, with a dramatic backdrop of rugged cliffs.
The road hugging the cliffs affords one of the most spectacular drives in Europe. Everywhere are orange, lemon, and olive groves, vineyards, lush greenery and flowering shrubs—all near the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea. On this tour we will take in all the most beloved sights in the region and reward our taste buds with samples of the local specialties including extra-virgin olive oil, mozzarella cheese and Limoncello, the local liqueur. We will even have the opportunity to make our own “Neapolitan” pizza!
Perched high on the cliffs with stunning views over the Bay of Naples to the distant Mount Vesuvius, Sorrento is considered the most picturesque town on the Bay of Naples and features a host of restaurants, cafés, shops, and a local market. Other small towns and villages along the coast are easily accessible by local transport.
We will stay 12 nights at the Bristol or Minerva Hotel (or similar) in Sorrento, both located in the heart of the city, a few steps from the main square Piazza Tasso. The partial or full sea view rooms feature a double bed, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and direct telephones.
After our stay in Sorrento we will proceed to Rome for our final overnight (near the airport) with a tour of the lively city of Naples en route.

Itinerary
Day 1DEPARTURE
We depart for Rome - a non-stop flight from Toronto.
Day 2ROME/ SORRENTO
Upon arrival in Rome we transfer to our hotel in Sorrento, stopping enroute for an included lunch.
Day 3SORRENTO/ GALATEA FARM
We begin our day with an orientation walking tour of the clifftop town of Sorrento, including the main square, Piazza Tasso - always a hive of activity - and a visit of the Wood Inlay Museum. We then proceed to Galatea Farm in the Sorrento hills where we are welcomed by the staff who explain the workings of this small farm. We enjoy a tasting of local wines and participate in a cooking lesson and pizza-making demonstration during which we make our own personal Neapolitan pizzas.
Day 4MAIORI & VIETRI SUL MARE
Today we first visit the beach resort town of Maiori, well known for its lovely tree-lined promenade. During our orientation walking tour we’ll see the elaborate Italian-style gardens, the interesting local church, and winding narrow streets and shops, with the hills and cliffs forming a wonderful backdrop. The town is not hilly and so it’s easy to stroll through the narrow streets and lanes with their colourful shops and cafes. We then proceed to visit the artisan town of Vietri Sul Mare, where the residents produce beautiful Italian ceramics – surely a special souvenir of your tour to the Amalfi coast!
Day 5SORRENTO
At leisure to enjoy Sorrento's fine shopping and cafes, as well as the stunning views and surroundings. Optional excursions will be available.
Day 6RAVELLO/ AMALFI
This morning we visit Ravello and the Villa Rufolo, the inspiration for some of musician Richard Wagner's famous works. We then continue to the beautiful town of Amalfi for a walking tour and some free time to explore.
Day 7SORRENTO
A day at leisure. Of course there is so much to do and see in the city and in this region. Your Tour Manager will be on hand to offer suggestions and optional tours.
Day 8POSITANO
Today we enjoy a boat trip to Positano, one of the coast’s most picturesque towns, with steeply-stacked houses cascading down towards the sea in a riot of sun-bleached peach, pink and terracotta colours. Keep your camera ready for capturing the steep streets and narrow lanes lined with wisteria-draped cafes, restaurants and boutiques.
Day 9SORRENTO
At leisure to enjoy Sorrento in your own way. Sorrento is an excellent town for strolling, while enjoying the glorious views and surroundings.
Day 10POMPEII
We enjoy a morning tour to fascinating Pompeii, the ruins of a once-thriving and sophisticated community destroyed by the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. This vast archaeological site features excavated ruins of streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.
Day 11SORRENTO
At leisure.
Day 12CAPRI/ SORRENTO
We catch the ferry from Sorrento to the lovely island of Capri and its famous Blue Grotto. Capri was once a summer resort for Roman Emperors and even today is a magnet for visitors with its famous Piazzetta and the Garden of Augustus overlooking the Faraglioni Rocks. There will be some free time for shopping before returning to Sorrento.
Day 13SORRENTO
A final day at leisure for that last-minute shopping. This evening we will attend a performance of local tradition, dance and songs at the hotel.
Day 14NAPLES/ ROME
We depart for Rome. Enroute we will stop in the lively city of Naples for a panoramic tour, a visit of the Royal Palace and lunch at a local restaurant. Later we arrive in Rome for our Farewell Dinner and overnight.
